Welcome and Course Overview
Hi and WELCOME to "Sociological Foundations for the Average Citizen"! My name is Nicholas Shane Wright and I am a graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in Sociology and minor in education. I am passionate about understanding society, cultures, social theory, and educating others using the knowledge I have obtained over my lifespan.
In this course, we aim to provide you with a comprehensive and easy-to-understand overview of the key modules that will be covered. By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of various sociological concepts and theories that will help you navigate and make sense of the social world around you.
Module 1 will introduce you to the basic concepts of sociology, such as social institutions, social norms, and socialization. You will learn how societies are structured and how individuals are influenced by the larger social forces at play.
Module 2 will delve into the different sociological theories that help explain why societies function the way they do. From functionalism to conflict theory, you will explore the various perspectives that sociologists use to understand social phenomena.
Finally, in Module 3, we will apply these sociological concepts and theories to real-world issues and case studies. You will analyze topics such as inequality, race, gender, and globalization through a sociological lens, gaining critical insights into the complexities of society.
I aim to provide this course for an affordable price so that all individuals have access to important concepts that will allow them to view the social world from a more educated and compassionate standpoint. Throughout this course, I will allow you to make comments so that I can improve the student experience and make the course more enjoyable and relevant to those seeking to further their knowledge of society.
